Second degree burns to the neck treated with hydrogel, Activon Tube, Actilite and Eclypse dressings

Background
The patient is five years old, he burnt himself while playing in kindergarten, a cup of coffee fell down on his neck. He came to hospital directly on February 16th 2010 as an outpatient.


He has a right lateral neck burn. The burn around 2% TBSA superficial second degree.
Initial treatment
His neck was cleaned using normal saline fluid. Hydrogel was applied over the burn area, Eclypse was applied as the secondary dressing.


Second dressing - after 5 days

The wound was cleaned again by normal saline fluid, the wound was then gently debrided. Hydrogel was applied over the burn area, Eclypse was applied as the secondary dressing.
Third dressing
The wound was again cleaned by normal saline fluid, the wound was gently debrided. Advancis Manuka honey was applied directly to the wound and dressed with Actilite, Eclypse was applied as the secondary dressing.


Fourth dressing

The wound was again cleaned by normal saline fluid. Algivon was applied over the wound. Eclypse was used as a secondary dressing.
Discussion
As we use A.D for his second degree neck burn healing was less than 10 days. Dressing pain was okay for him and no need for any sedation. A drawback in this case was the location of the wound (on the neck) the Eclypse struggled to cover the area completely. If we had Eclypse® like a ringneck shape, healing may have been quicker however we understand that the demand for this shape of product would not be high.
